The Ancient Magus’ Bride season 2 episode 3 looks toward the future with an introduction-heavy episode

The third episode of season two of "The Ancient Magus' Bride" starts with someone waking up late for their magic class. It appears to be evening as there is not much natural light present, indicating that this person is waking up around the same time as the events that occurred in the previous episode. The individual believes they have missed their class.

When they open their dorm room door, they witness Rian Scrimgeour asking Chise to teach him magic, which was seen in the previous episode. The person is taken aback upon hearing Rian's request as the episode begins its opening sequence.

The third episode then reveals that the person who overslept is Tory Innis, who joins Rian and Chise. Tory asks Chise how she's finding school so far, and she responds positively. Chise then inquires about Elias's whereabouts and asks if Tory knows which room he is in. Rian explains that Mikhail Renfred took him away and asks if they are related.

In episode 3 of The Ancient Magus' Bride season 2, Chise is accompanied by Rian as they walk in the direction Elias was taken. Chise asks Rian about his visit to Tory, but he brushes it off and says he only came to wake him up. Tory then calls out to Chise and Alice, asking them to be good to Rian and mentioning that he thinks they're all compatible. As they depart, Tory looks somewhat worried.

Rian recognizes Alice as Alice Swayne and asks to see her use magic, but she emphasizes that she doesn't want to be a mage. Blue Flame and Ruth both agree that Alice isn't cut out to be a mage, and the Blue Flame insults mages as "dimwits who get caught up in rules." Alice throws the Blue Flame and Rian identifies it as a fairy, with the Blue Flame insulting Rian's strength as smelling of rust.

Chise asks Rian why he wants to learn magic, and he reveals that he wants to make someone happy. A vision of Tory appears on the screen, implying that Tory is the person he wants to make happy.

Meanwhile, Chise hears Renfred yelling at Elias in a nearby room, and Narcisse Maugham is present as a spectator. Narcisse approaches Chise and Elias and calls Chise a "normal girl" before encouraging her to speak to him if she's interested in language arts. He also expresses excitement about working with Elias as a colleague.

Narcisse departs and Rian offers to show Chise and Elias the way to the cafeteria, while Alice and Renfred say they'll eat at home. Rian mentions that he's heard Alice talks with her fists and Chise smiles knowingly. Gregory approaches Narcisse and asks about Chise, but Narcisse only describes her as normal and not a detriment to the college or their principal. Gregory asks him to report anything unusual and notes that Chise isn't the only oddball this year.

In episode 3 of season 2 of "The Ancient Magus' Bride," the focus shifts to the cafeteria where Rian explains the process of grabbing food to Chise and Elias. Beatrice notices Elias and invites them to join her and her friends at their table. Chise agrees and they are introduced to the group, which includes Beatrice, Sofia, Isaac, Kevin, Martin, Jasmine, Violet, Lazarus, Roy, and Zoe.

The group starts eating and chatting, but there are some small conflicts such as Lazarus and Roy fighting over food and Kevin getting angry when Martin passes the pepper instead of Sofia. Chise notices Lucy sitting alone and asks Sofia about it, but Beatrice explains that Lucy is always like that.

More students arrive, including Veronica, April and May, and Philomela. Rian asks Chise about mages being nomadic, and the St. George twins ask Elias about his head and his other form. Beatrice asks Elias to be her model, and other requests follow. Zoe seems angry about something but brushes it off as being nervous.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride season 2 episode 3: Friend or foe

In The Ancient Magus' Bride season 2 episode 3, Elias abruptly leaves while Chise stares at Zoe and confirms he wasn't feeling malicious before wondering what happened. Lucy questions making friends as they'll become enemies, and Zoe calls Elias and Chise inhuman. Later that night, Adolf contacts his former teacher Lindel to ask if Elias has ever shown an intent to harm someone.

Lindel comments on how it sounds like something has already happened, and Adolf asks if he knows why Elias is called Pilum Muralis. The scene transitions to Rahab waking up from a nap, reaching for something on her neck, which she doesn't have.

Chise and Elias lay out in the fields, with Chise finding something she enjoys doing despite being worn out from the life of a student. Elias explains how he feels extremely tired, prompting Chise to ask what's wrong, and they lay down on the blanket. Elias lectures on Halloween and the history behind Jack-o-Lanterns, explaining ancient traditions that celebrated various gods.

Chise unintentionally crushes a pumpkin with her cursed arm, causing Joseph to appear, warning her that she can't get away from him anymore. He caresses her eyeball, reminding her that she hasn't given him an answer yet, and Chise agrees. Ruth appears and tells Chise that Stella, her friend, and Joseph's former hostage, is there.

Stella jokes with Chise about not checking her phone, and Elias tells them to head home. As they walk off, Elias watches them, thinking that something seems different about Stella. The episode ends with Stella surrounded by fog on a forest path, and Chise and Ruth taken to a wide open area with water, with Chise asking where they are.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride season 2 episode 3: In summation

The Third episode of Season 2 of "The Ancient Magus' Bride" May not be the Most thrilling installment but it serves a crucial purpose in Advancing the Story of the popular Anime Series. Although watching Chise and Elias Forge friendships may not be the most riveting content there are a couple of captivating moments in the episode that more than compensate for this.

Notably, two of these high points are the conversations between Narcisse and Gregory, as well as Adolf and Lindel. It appears that both the governing body of the College and some of its staff harbor concerns about the presence of Chise and Elias. While the current pace of the season may seem sluggish, it is likely building towards a climactic scenario, with a single spark poised to ignite the flames.
